Yes we were! Yes we did! We read about a cat who thought he was a duck in "Quackers" by Liz Wong. It's about "Belonging" and finding your place in the world.

ART TEACHER, ARIELLE ROSTANT, ILLUSTRATES "WALK ABOUT" AN ORIGINAL READ ALOUD STORY DEDICATED TO THE WARAO, FROM DUNROSS
October 13, 2017
In just a few hours, and under the pressure of a long TO DO list for our school's celebration, Miss Rostant illustrated a unique panel to highlight the elements of "Walk About". The original story, by yours truly, is dedicated to the Warao, (canoe people), from The Dunross Preparatory School. It is my way, as a children's book author and librarian, of commemorating the first-ever national celebration of our First Peoples. Warao was the First Nation of this land we now call Trinidad and Tobago. Warao elder, Rabinha Sha, said, "I am so moved. This is profound. It totally expresses the deep respect we have for the Creation and our way of life."

A LIBRARY VISION
October 16, 2017
“Becoming A Wise Reader” 2017 - 2018
You don't have to be a perfectly GOOD reader to be a WISE reader, or to be a WISE user of our library services. Most kids will eventually learn how to read. How many are going to enjoy reading for pleasure, for the rest of their lives? Our mission is for the long term. We need teachers and students who love reading, are critical thinkers and savvy navigators of information and media resources. Ultimately, 21st century technology has democratized content creation. Today, anyone can move from being a mere consumer of media to producing, publishing, marketing and distributing original content. We would be remiss if we did not include this digital reality into our curriculum planning and content delivery. The Dunross Library shares the school's vision for GROWING TOGETHER!

HAPPY READING!
October, 2017
So many reasons, so little time! Kids need to be reading, and "Because I told you so!" is NOT one of the many good reasons why. Let's focus LESS on what they read, how well they read or even, how often or for how long. Let's focus MORE on the FUN, and the ways reading enriches our lives. Reading readiness takes longer for some. Did you know that just looking at pictures shows reading readiness? Did you know that kids are never too old for bed time stories? Families that read together, become life long learners together.
"The Quiet Book" by Deborah Underwood
There are many kinds of quiet: Others telling secrets quiet ...Coloring in the lines quiet...Swimming underwater quiet...Making a wish quiet..."
